Health Insurance

International students must have valid health insurance during their stay in Turkey. Please follow your health insurance processes very carefully to avoid any problems in the future and to avoid incurring debts due to health expenses. When your health insurance expires, you must renew your health insurance as soon as possible and notify the Immigration Administration. Renewing your health insurance is vital for your health and to avoid legal problems.

General Health Insurance (General Health Insurance/GHI/GSS) provided by the Social Security Institution is recommended by our university, but students can also have private health insurance if they wish. If you wish to have private health insurance, you must regularly extend your insurance policy.

To have a GSS (General Health Insurance), you need to apply via e-government (e-Devlet) after obtaining your foreigner ID number within 3 months after the registration date (first university enrollment). For the year 2023, the annual GSS premium is approximately 4800 TL. For the GSS application, you need to follow the steps below after you receive your residence permit card:

*Reporting your Foreign ID Number (YU) to the International Student Office to update your information

*To get an e-government (e-devlet) password by going to the nearest PTT branch,

*Then log in to www.turkiye.gov.tr with your password

*Find the "GSS Application and Tracking of Foreign Students" service from the search box and make your application by clicking on the "make a new application" link,

*To make sure that your application has been approved by revisiting the same page a few days after submitting your application

*Then go to https://www.turkiye.gov.tr/sosyal-guvenlik-sosyal-guvenlik-kurumu-kart-i..., after logging in with your e-government password, select Other Collections-GSS Premium options and make your payment by entering your YU number starting with 99

*To obtain a certificate of Müstehaklık (eligibility) from https://www.turkiye.gov.tr/spas-mustahaklik-sorgulama within 30 days after you have made your payment (The document should state "Müstehaktır, provizyon alabilir.")

*You can submit this document to the Bursa Provincial Directorate of Migration Management document unit (evrak birimi) with a petition, without the need to make an appointment.

According to the law, students who have not applied for GSS within 3 months of enrollment cannot benefit from this right later. For this reason, students are kindly requested not to neglect this process. In case of a change of department/program and stage of study (e.g. transition from undergraduate program to master's degree), you will regain the right to apply for GSS.

***Those who have valid health insurance in Turkey through their parents or within the framework of bilateral agreements must submit a document from the Social Security Center to the Migration Management.
